This is not true. Birds' knee joints go the same way as humans' do. Their knees are further up on the leg - see your own image of a bird skeleton if you don't believe me. Could you be persuaded to migrate your robot code to JAVA embedded version for Agile chip that is uses java as the native code. I am not building robots however am dealing with high rank tensors and nonlinear properties in reinforcement of concrete and composites in general that are fiber based.
I can send you small amounts on $$$ from time to time until the big day comes!
